What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?
Level 1 uses a standard 120-volt outlet and is slow. Level 2 uses a dedicated 240-volt circuit, like a dryer or range, and charges much faster.
For most East Valley drivers, with longer commutes and hot summers, Level 2 is the practical choice.
What is involved in installing a home EV charger?
A typical installation follows five steps:
- Load check: We confirm your panel can support a charging circuit alongside your AC, pool pump, and other big loads.
- Location planning: We choose a garage, carport, or driveway spot where the cable reaches easily and the wiring route is clean.
- Dedicated circuit: We install a properly sized circuit with the correct breaker, wire, and protection.
- Charger mounting: We hardwire a wall unit or install a 240-volt receptacle for a plug-in charger.
- Permit and inspection: Henderson’s pulls the permit where one is required and arranges the inspection.
Which EV charger should I buy?
The right charger depends on your vehicle and how you drive. We’ll help you choose between a hardwired unit and a plug-in model, and size the circuit to match.
If you already bought a charger, we’ll review its requirements before we install it.
What if my electrical panel is already full?
A full panel doesn’t automatically mean an expensive upgrade. Depending on your load calculation, the options include:
- A lower-amperage charging setting
- A load-management device that shares capacity with other appliances
- A subpanel
- A full panel upgrade when it’s truly needed
How much does EV charger installation cost?
It depends on your home, so we provide a written estimate after a load check. We don’t quote prices sight unseen.
- Distance from the panel to the charger location
- Whether your panel has room and capacity
- Hardwired versus plug-in installation
- Indoor versus outdoor mounting
Can you install chargers for businesses or two-EV homes?
Yes. We evaluate available capacity and lay out circuits for multiple chargers.
For businesses, EV charging fits naturally into a tenant improvement or power upgrade project.

Frequently asked questions
Does SRP or APS offer EV rate plans?
Both utilities have offered time-of-use and EV-oriented plans that can make overnight charging cheaper. Plans and rebates change, so check with SRP or APS for current options.
Do I need a permit for an EV charger?
A new 240-volt circuit typically needs a permit in East Valley jurisdictions. Henderson’s pulls the permit where one is required.
Can an EV charger be installed outside?
Yes, if the charger and wiring are rated for outdoor use. Arizona sun and monsoon storms are hard on equipment, so placement and weather-rated parts matter.
Does my HOA need to approve an EV charger?
An indoor garage install usually doesn’t. Exterior-mounted chargers may need approval, so check your HOA guidelines first.
Can you install a charger in a detached garage or carport?
Yes. We size the feeder or circuit for the distance and the charger, and use wiring methods suited to the location.
